Just recently I discovered Remember The Milk and it has quickly made its way into my daily routine.

For those of you who have never heard of the application: RTM is a way to structure your to-do lists.

How it works:

When you create a task you can add a due date as well as tags (i.e. “boring stuff”), estimates of how long the task will take you to complete, and additional information in form of notes. After you have created a task you can add the task to a list (i.e. “school work”) to keep track of similar tasks. Lists and task can be shared with other users.

Lets say you are hiring a summer intern. You could create a list with things you need done and share it with him/her. The intern can then subscribe to the list using any calendar application (outlook, ical, google calendar etc.). Now whenever you add a new task to that particular list he/she will receive a calendar update and can go online and eventually mark the task as completed. A great way to structure an internship and keep track of the intern’s progress. I am sure you can come up with many other applications for RTM.

RTM added support for the Blackberry and the Iphone/Ipod touch, so you can stay on top of your tasks on the go. Perfect for shopping lists!

Conclusion:

Overall RTM is a really useful application for anyone who has a lot on his plate and needs a way to organize tasks. The tight integration with existing calendar applications, the easy-to-use interface, and the ability to share tasks with other users are just some of the highlights that make this application as popular as it is.

Definitely worth checking out.
